Condition

Ingrowing Hair

Ingrown hair is a condition in which a hair curls backwards or grows sideways into the skin. They can cause red and itchy bumps on the skin, sometimes referred to as ‘razor rash’. The hair may be seen growing underneath the skin. The condition is sometimes coupled with an infection in the hair follicle which can be painful and result in pus-filled spots.

Information on Ingrowing Hair

If the hair is broken off, leaving a sharp tip, ingrown hairs are more likely to occur. They are therefore commonly found in shaved areas such as the face and neck, legs, armpits and bikini line. Ingrown hairs are more likely to occur if you have coarse or curly hair.

The best form of prevention against ingrown hair is to stop shaving or waxing. For this reason, laser hair removal has become a popular option for those battling against the condition.
