As we age, the muscles around our eyes weaken and tissues sag. The loss of skin tone allows fat to move into the lower eyelids, causing them to become puffy and swollen. Dark circles or shadows may also form underneath the eyes. This happens in part due to the underlying blood vessels becoming more prominent through the eyes’ thin and delicate skin, thus making the skin appear darker.
As well as ageing, eye bags can be caused by lack of sleep, smoking, allergies, and retaining fluid. Eye bags are rarely a cause for medical concern, yet people regularly seek to improve their appearance for cosmetic reasons.
We have a number of treatments available to reduce the appearance of eye bags at Harpenden Skin Clinic.
If you relate to this condition but still feel unsure, at Harpenden Skin Clinic we are always here to help and advise patients on the best possible treatment journey performed by experienced clinicians.
