Congested or clogged skin is characterized by its dull appearance, large pores and blackheads. If the face feels bumpy and uneven to the touch, there is a high chance it is congested.
Every three to four weeks, the skin renews its cells. Dead skin cells, therefore, form the top layer of the skin. If dead skin cells are not removed, they may mix with oil and bacteria, causing blackheads to appear. When oil and dead skin cells collect in the pores, the skin swells causing pores to look enlarged.
Poor skincare and exfoliation can lead to congested skin, as well as over-active sebaceous (oil-producing) glands. Over-the-counter remedies can help to alleviate the symptoms of congested skin, although cosmetic treatments offer a long-term solution.
