When skin is lacking water, it is dehydrated. It can become dry and itchy, as well as dull in appearance. Fine lines and wrinkles become more noticeable and the overall complexion begins to appear uneven.
Dehydrated skin is often confused with dry skin. Dry skin is a type of skin which lacks natural oils, whereas dehydrated skin is a condition in which the skin lacks water.
To assess your skin’s hydration levels, pinch a small amount of skin on the back of your hand and gently squeeze. If the skin immediately bounces back, you are hydrated. If it returns to its normal shape more slowly, you may be dehydrated.
It’s important to keep hydrated and ensure you are drinking enough water, but we do have treatments suitable for dehydrated skin also here at Harpenden Skin Clinic.
If you relate to this condition but still feel unsure, at Harpenden Skin Clinic we are always here to help and advise patients on the best possible treatment journey performed by experienced clinicians.
