Broken blood vessels, also known as spider veins, are enlarged blood vessels that develop just beneath the surface of the skin and are commonly found on the face. Like the name ‘spider veins’ suggests, the blood vessels create web-shaped patterns that spread out beneath the skin.
The condition can occur in people of any age, yet some have a higher chance of developing it than others. Broken blood vessels in the face can be caused by genetic factors, sun exposure, changes in weather or pressure, pregnancy, skin irritants, rosacea, consumption of alcohol, and head injury.
Although they are harmless, spider veins can cause the sufferer to become self-conscious about their appearance. Various cosmetic treatments may lead to a reduced appearance of spider veins, such as the laser treatments we provide here at Harpenden Skin Clinic.
If you relate to this condition but still feel unsure, at Harpenden Skin Clinic we are always here to help and advise patients on the best possible treatment journey performed by experienced clinicians.
