Condition

Cellulite

Cellulite is the term for lumpy, dimpled skin. It results from an interaction between the connective tissue in the skin and the layer of fat that lies just below it. It typically affects women, mainly targeting the thighs and buttocks. Not only do hormones like oestrogen play a role in cellulite development, but also the fat cells and connective tissue below the skin are arranged vertically in women. This means that fat cells can protrude into the layer of skin, giving cellulite its famous ‘orange peel’ look.

Information on Cellulite

There are many factors that play a part in the development of cellulite such as general skin health and ageing, toxin build up, hormones, genetics, lifestyle, skin tissue fibrosis, weight loss and gain, fat cell hypertrophy and more.

Although cellulite doesn’t cause any health problems, people often turn to cosmetic procedures to help reduce the visible dimpling and improve the skin appearance.

Here at Harpenden Skin Clinic’s The Body Suite, we provide effective, non-invasive treatments to target cellulite.
